Maintaining a Healthy Body Weight
It's that time of year when we think of trying to remove the excess pounds from the holiday period. Maintaining a healthy body weight is an important factor in maintaining good health and well being, yet the official statistics for the UK has seen a steady increase in obesity rates, and recent figures show that 24% of men and 26% of women now fall into this category.
Official NHS statistics, released in February 2013, also show that the proportion of adults with a healthy body mass index (BMI) which is defined as being between 18.5 and 25, fell to just 34% in men and 39% in women during 2011.
Also, during 2011 to 2012, of children attending reception class, aged between 4-5 years, 9.5% were obese.
These statistics paint an alarming picture which reveals that the obesity epidemic shows no signs of abating anytime soon.
Everybody’s Weight Loss Needs are Different
Some people find themselves eating between meals or late at night. Others may have a slow metabolism that keeps them from achieving their weight loss goals. For many individuals a healthy body weight can be achieved by following a healthy, wholefood diet, alongside an appropriate level of regular exercise. Exercise doesn’t have to be in the gym, and can be something as simple as a daily walk.
But for many of those with busy, demanding lifestyles, it’s not always easy to maintain a good wholesome daily diet, or to fit in our ideal regular exercise
regime. Skipping meals, eating on the go, poor food choices and junk food can compound the problem.
